Isabel Hospice and Garden House Hospice Care come together to bring you “Fountain 2 Fountain Hike”.
This is the second year of our approximate 16 miles hike from Letchworth Garden City (the home of Garden House Hospice care) to Welwyn Garden City (the home of Isabel Hospice).
Following a predominantly traffic free, countryside route this brand new event will provide a beautiful but challenging day’s walking, whilst linking these two beautiful hospice garden cities.
You may be walking in memory of a loved one or simply for the enjoyment and the challenge of this brand new hike, whatever your reason we really look forward to welcoming you to what we expect to be a wonderful days walking with friends, family and loved ones.
Start: Broadway Gardens, Broadway, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 3PF
Finish: Coronation Fountain, Parkway, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6HQ
Registration:
Registration will be open from 0800 with registering and set off will be between 0830 and 0930 (on a first come first start basis). If you arrive after 0930, you will not be allowed to start. Every walker must endeavour to have completed the walk by 1730.
The route will be signed and there will be limited marshals on route with spare water. You should however come prepared to be self-sufficient for a full days walking with your own food and water to carry with you on the day in an appropriate rucksack.
You will pass numerous pubs on route but at this point it is likely that access to them may be limited for any food or refreshments ( we will update as and when we are able to, to tell you more about any of these establishments supporting the event)
A basic level of fitness is required and all walkers should be able to complete the distance in the time given and sensible walking shoes or comfy trainers are highly recommended.
The route:
The approx 16 mile route will take you from Broadway Gardens, Letchworth Garden City through the villages of Willian, Great Wymondley, Little Wymondley, Titmore Green, Little Almshoe then cross country to Knebworth park.
You will then cross Knebworth park and head onto Rabley Heath where the route will eventually wind its way into Old Welwyn. Your journey will take you out to Ayot St Peter and Ayot Green before you head into Sherrardspark woods and journeys end at Coronation Fountain, Parkway, Welwyn Garden City.
Although there is no min age limit on this event the route is not buggy or push chair friendly and small sections are on country roads, you should therefore only bring children who are able to complete the 18 miles on foot.
Both start and finish locations are 5 minutes’ walk from the train station, with trains running approx. every hour between WGC and Letchworth GC throughout the day (please plan your journey in advance and check train times). There are numerous public car parks close to both start and finish locations so again please check in advance. We do recommend either taking the train or getting dropped off if possible.
This hike is a fundraising event created to provide a fun but challenging day out but fundamentally to raise money for the two hospices, so by signing up to join TeamIsabel we ask you to try and raise as much sponsorship as you can to enable Isabel Hospice to continue our vital end of life care in your community.
